Meet The Driver – Part 5

In the fifth episode of our driver talks we had the opportunity to chat with Bossmotz, who turned 24 today, so happy birthday and welcome Motz!

Let’s start with your name first, how did you get to this username?

The name was born out of necessity when I bought my PS4. My friends wanted to play and I had to think of a name quickly. Motz is my nickname and 16 was my favourite number at that time.

How did you get to your driver number?

The number has no special meaning for me. I just like how the 43 looks on the car.

A little more personal info about you, how old are you and where do you live?

So my name is Matthias, I’ve just turned 24 and I live in a village called Pöttsching in Austria.

What do you do in life? Work, study or something else

I work in the purchasing department of a company that produces building materials.

Who do you think are the biggest candidates for the title?

Division 1 is incredibly competitive, but I think Jari and Shaby are the ones to beat. Chalkers could also be a contender for the title.

Where do you see yourself and the team end up in the championship?

First of all I have to finish a race in the points. Mamba has already scored good points for the team and I have to try to do the same. As a team I think the top 5 is our minimum goal, as a driver I’m still hoping for the top 8 after this bad start to the season.

How do you prepare for a league race?

I used to prepare and practice a lot more for the races, but nowadays I just copy Mamba’s setup one hour before the race and do some laps in TT or with some other drivers.

How did you get into sim racing? And for how long have you been sim racing?

A few years ago I met Mamba through friends online. In the beginning there were only five or six of us racing against each other. At some point he said something about a league whose name I will not mention here ;). That’s how it started.

You are probably one of the very few Division 1 drivers that races on a controller. Do you have any plans to upgrade?

I keep talking about switching to a wheel, but unfortunately I don’t have enough space in my room to do so. I also have a little tick to always buy the best and unfortunately the Fanatec wheels are not as available as I would like them to be.

What other games do you like to play?

I play Call of Duty and Fortnite from time to time. Sometimes I also play farming simulator to calm down a bit after a race or Call of Duty.

What was your first console?

That must have been the PS2.

What was your first F1 game?

My first F1 game was Formula One 06 for the PSP.

About real racing, what was the first F1 Grand Prix you watched?

I think I’ve been watching Formula 1 since I was a baby. My first real memory of a Formula 1 race is Suzuka 2006 when Michael Schumacher retired with an engine failure and ultimately lost the world championship.

Have you ever been to a Formula 1 Grand Prix? When and where if so and what is possibly the next one you will visit?

I’ve been to three races so far. My first Grand Prix was at the Hungaroring in 2012. When Formula 1 returned to Austria in 2014 I was there and also in 2019. The next one will probably be Austria again, but I would like to go to Silverstone one day.

Who is or are your favourite drivers? And where do you think he or they will end up this season?

My favourite driver is Lewis Hamilton. I’ve liked him since he made his debut for McLaren in 2007. Before that I was a fan of Michael Schumacher, from whom I even have an autograph at home.

I’m also a fan of George Russell and Lando Norris. I think they can be world champions in the future.

I hope Mercedes gets their car fixed and we see an exciting fight for the championship.

Do you also follow other series?

I’m now watching more and more Formula 2 and Formula 3 and sometimes MotoGP.

A rumor says that when you go karting, you end up completely destroying your teammate Blackmamba, is that true and if so, what makes you that much quicker?

Haha that is 100% true. I won all of our 8 races so far, even if I started last on purpose at some of them. They say I always win because I’m a lot lighter than them, but the truth is I’m just the better driver. Maybe I should have started karting a bit earlier, who knows where I would be today. Jokes aside, but I don’t think I’m a bad driver and I enjoy racing with my friends.

And finally, back to you on the sim. How do you race? And can you share a picture of how your setup looks?

I race with my controller on a computer screen that I got from my brother.
